And these hornets know how to use the Internets. After Jack Thompson attempted to get Penny Arcade’s creators arrested by the Seattle Police Department (albeit, with a caveat):

Tycho and I remain free men. The fact is that Jack actually sent the fax to everyone but the intended recipient at the Seattle PD.

Still, the action was apparently enough to get the Penny Arcade fanbois motivated, and they apparently bombarded the Florida Bar Association with requests for the FBA to investigate the wingnut in question. Here is the Hornet’s Nest thread, discussing the complaints they’ve sent. Here’s one:

I called the FBA, and I was on hold for 20 minutes, and once I got a rep, as soon as I said Jack Thompson, she sighed loudly and goes, “Dear Lord, what has this man done? That’s all we’ve heard today all day long!” and I told her that I had faxed a 3 page letter detailing the exact complaint, and she said that it would help alot and she will go get the fax. I’m on hold again.

Another:

I contacted the FBA requesting an update, and was told that they have been so overwhelmingly innundated with complaints, that they are having an emergency meeting to decide what kind of action to take.

Note that he isn’t under investigation yet, but it appears there is actually enough motion to spur the FBA into attempting to maintain some sort of integrity in their bar. Slashdot (where this article was first seen) gives us the real lesson.

The lesson here? There are many nerds in the world. Some of them have a posse. Be careful who you pick on.
